SSR technology employs reinforced side walls that support the vehicle in the event of air-pressure loss. This ensures that the side walls of the flat tyre are not crushed between the road and the wheel rim.
In the event of full pressure loss, limited mobility (no sudden driving manoeuvre) is still possible at a maximum speed of 50 miles per hour for up to a distance of 50 miles. The run flat distance will be influenced by driving style, speed, type of road, weather conditions, tyre condition and vehicle load.
SSR tyres may only be fitted on vehicles for which they are approved by the vehicle manufacturer and that are equipped with a tyre pressure monitoring system.
Dealers have to be trained and certified by Continental to ensure proper fitting/removal of SSR tyres.
Continental SSR tyres can be fitted on all standard wheel rims (at least H2).
