- To fit and remove SSR tyres, mounting equipment suitable for fitting low profile tyres is necessary. Preferred, are fitting machines equipped with plastic rollers for the top and bottom beads as they prevent rim damage.
- SSR tyres should not be mixed with standard tyres on the same car - even if paired on the axles (in exceptional of cases, a normal tyre can be used for a limited period and distance. Then of course, the driver has to be clearly advised that normal tyres do not have the run flat characteristics of SSR).
- The mixing of RF SSR tires with SSR tires or for that matter with conventional tires is forbidden.
- SSR tyres which have been damaged or driven flat are not repairable and should not be put back into service.
- Continental AG will provide the dealer and enduser with necessary information (SSR fitting/removal instructions, SSR handbook end user, SSR stickers and SSR eLearning).
SSR advice for re-sellers It is in the wholesalers / re-sellers best interests to adhere to the advice given below. - Continental advises that retail dealers or wholesalers who re-sell SSR tyres to commercial businesses (e.g. garages, petrol stations) should ensure that the purchaser is aware of the special safety and fitting characteristics of SSR tyres and makes the end-consumer aware of Continental’s safety recommendations.
- Continental offers a free training and self-certification procedure (see http://www.conti-ssr.co.uk) and recommends all personnel coming into contact with SSR tyres to perform the training. Re-sellers should encourage their customers to obtain a self-certification and may wish to keep a record of customer certificates.
- Continental advises that the leaflet ‘Runflat Tyres - Important information for drivers’(containing Continental’s safety recommendations for end-consumers) should be made available to purchasers and they in turn should pass this to the end-consumer. These can be obtained from Continental.
